Plasma Cutters

OK…plasma cutter…I’m thinking that sounds neat. Something that cuts plasma…hmmm…but why does plasma need to be cut?

Well, as far as I know, plasma doesn’t need to be cut but metal does! And that’s exactly what a plasma cutter does…it cuts metal! Ah-ha…now I see!

Since we need these very strong metals to be able to build airplanes, bridges, etc, we also need a heavy duty cutter that will be able to cut the strong metals in a precise way. I don’t know about you, but I like for my airplane parts to be precise!! This is where the plasma cutter comes in….

Plasma is the fourth state of matter…did you know that?. You get plasma when you heat a gas even further. When this happens, fast-moving electrons collide into other electrons and ions which causes an extreme release of energy…this energy is what is used to cut these metals. Plasma Cutters are able to use this type of energy to make the necessary cuts. Isn’t that neat? You learn something new everyday!
