Solar Village! Cool!

Have you ever seen a solar village? Well, if not, you have a chance to see one on the National Mall in Washington D.C. in just two days!

That’s right, in two days, the BP Solar Decathlon kicks off with the opening of the solar village. This solar village will be made up of twenty solar houses designed and built by twenty different college and university teams from around the world. These teams will compete in ten different competitions in order to choose an overall winner. The teams are responsible for choosing the best systems, appliances and products for their homes…their homes that are powered only by the sun!

As this competition progresses, you can check out the blog set up by BP. You’ll be able to read posts written by the teams and also posts written by an on-site reporter. I think this is a great idea and such a neat type of competition. I feel that researching alternative sources of energy is certainly a good thing. I wish we lived closer so we could visit the solar village and see all there neat houses. I’m sure the blog will be a good alternative though.

The BP Solar Decathlon runs from October 12th through the 20th on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
