Thursday Thirteen..On My Mind

Thirteen Things on My Mind Right Now...This Very Moment!

1. I want to build this lemonade stand.

2. There is not one single Chris Rice song that I have not completely loved...not one!

3. Camy Tang's book Sushi for One (available Sept.) is very hard to put down! Really...this book has kept me up until 3am for the past three nights...I love it and can't wait for the next in the series...and these are not even my "type" of books! lol!!

4. We're going to be making a chicken mummy this year in school! Cool!

5. Josh had a neat tie on this morning....the colors...they popped! Inspiration for a new mini quilt...maybe?? I wish I had a picture of it...maybe I could flag him down on his way home from work and then whip out my camera and quickly snap a shot...hmmm...I think I could do it. He understands my strangeness...heck...he even encourages it! This is a nice tie too...reminds me of my never-ending ripple ghan I'm working on....By the way, Josh is Sparkle's dad!

6. I need to clean my windows....today. I let Belle and Stephanie clean them and I think they used butter....

7. Why does playing Bibleopoly bring out the worst in me?

8. I'm really excited about getting school started this year...and not because of the King Cluck Chicken Mummy...well...ok, that does have a bit to do with it!!

9. When I order up a "White With 5" my kids know that I want this: coffee with 5 Splendas in a white mug!
10. My SIL just called to talk to Pete...and she sounded like she was starting to cry! I asked her what was wrong...thinking something horrible had happened....it was only a banana, folks! She was eating a banana....never, ever call me when you are eating a banana...it freaks me out....it sounds like you are about to cry...really, it does! lol!

11. Even though I am listening to my awesome Pandora Chris Rice channel I created during the Blogathon, I am unable to get the "Lonely Goat Herder" song out of my head....

12. If I only I could yodel and clog...imagine where that would take me....oh the possibilities!

13. I think if I could learn to yodel, I would be able to clean my house really fast...

Face Maker

I had a lot of fun with this too...I think this would be neat for writers to use...you could go in and create different characters, print them out and pin them up in your writing area. Of course, if you're not a visual person like me, this would probably drive you nuts! Another good idea is to use this with your children. They could create all kinds of characters for their creative writing stories! Of course, proportion and placement can be taught with this tool also....apparently I need some instruction in that area! I really like the Conan O'Brien hair-do....

Find Five Errors

I came across this a couple of nights ago and was sucked in! I think this would be great way to exercise your brain...I've been through it several times and I know where all the errors are now so it's not much of a challenge anymore. Let me know if you got sucked into this like I did!

Wegman And Man Ray

As I was working on a post for my dog blog, Who Let the Dog Out?!, I found this wonderful video clip of William Wegman and his dog Man Ray. In this video clip, Wegman is going over a spelling lesson with Man Ray who is absolutely the sweetest thing! I thought you all would enjoy it so I've posted the link over here too.

If you want to read just a smidge more about Wegman and Man Ray, please visit Who Let the Dog Out?!

Craft Day

I think I'm really close to calling a "Craft Day". There are a gazillion projects I would like to finish up and that seems so much more fun than housework. Besides, when I get an area cleaned up it is immediately trashed by the kids. Do you remember me saying that my house looks like a drug dealer's? Well, it still does...and I'm not too happy about it...actually, I'm feeling quite defeated. At least dinner is in the crock pot.....sigh.....

Have You Ever Stolen Toilet Paper?

I guess I would have to say that I have stolen TP...in college when we would tp cars and dormroom doors. Was I really stealing though...I mean, really, isn't toilet paper covered somewhere in those really high college tuitions? I know, it's wasn't right and just because college was expensive, I had shouldn't have stolen the touilet paper....but is was so fun! lol!!

Well, apparently other people steal toilet paper too...specifically a woman with the last name of "Butts"...no kidding! You can read about it over here! Sheesh....if you needed to steal something and your name was "Butts" wouldn't you pick something else???

Fake-Up

I was just reading about Paris Hilton and the whole jail thing when I came across this news article about "fake-up". Apparently, women in jail are using skittles, Crystals light, and coffee to create make-up for themselves. After doing some quick research, I know now that this is not a new thing...just new to me! lol! I do think it's a brilliant idea though. I mean, really, that is clever! I would have never thought about using skittles at all! And guess how they get the glitter for their sparkly looks...from greeting cards!

Now, that's what I call repurposing!! lol!

Here's two recipes to make when you are out of jail! I think I'll have to try the Apricot-Orange recipe...

Recycle Your Credit Cards

I found this nifty tutorial on how to turn an old credit card into a little itty bitty planter for your fridge. Ideas like this one that repurpose items are wonderful! I also think this would be a nice little unique gift to give to a neighbor or a friend. I'm going to make a few for my kitchen windowsill...I'm afraid if I put them on my fridge they would be demolished. That happens with two hungry growing boys!

I think I'll plant grass in mine...no, not that kind but the basic yard kind! lol!!

Neat!

Free Hugs

I have seen this video before but I think it's worth viewing again! Apparently you can host your own Free Hug Day whenever you want to....you can even announce it over at Hug the World! We may have to do this sometimes soon...it would be fun. We would definitely need to make some signs to go along with our campaign...that will be fun to design!

Do Follow Train

Vegan Momma invited me to jump on this "Do Follow" train and so I am! I can't wait to go through this link list...there are several on there that I haven't seen before. Hopefully this will help my PR! Thanks Vegan Momma for thinking of me!!!

(Start copying here.)

1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.

2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.

3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.

4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW is using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!

Crazy Holding Hyacinth

About a week ago, we had the pleasure of having Crazy Tanya stop by here for a chat before she headed out on the town. Hyacinth the Ham just sat so still in her hand. Obviously, Crazy Tanya is a Ham Whisperer! lol!

I wish that Crazy Tanya would consider being a guest blogger on here....I would love for you all to hear some of her stories! She is a hoot!!

How about it, Crazy Tanya???

Teeanager Leaf and Younger Sib

Nik found the big leaf in our backyard a couple of days ago. He brought it to me and told me that he had found a "teenage leaf"...I thought he meant that it was medium sized. When I looked at it later, I realized that he had called it that because of the bumps which look like zits! lol!!

About 30 minutes after Nik brought me the "teenage leaf", Belle brought me "tiny baby leaf". She was just so thrilled to have found such a tiny treasure and she said she wanted to give it to a friend since it was a "friendship leaf"! I had no idea that my kids were so into naming leaves!!

So, after all was said and done...or named...I found this photo on my camera! I like to think it represents the love between sibs...I can dream can't I?!

I May Be Addicted...

I have had too much fun with TheNewsRoom site! I keep on coming across videos that I find interesting...like this one below. This just makes me sick! We aren't homeschooling because we are afraid that our children will be physically hurt in government schools...but after seeing things like this, I'm certainly glad that we do educate at home.

So, this child had just been in a fight and we do see him running away from "authority"...most definitely he needs to be disciplined but in the proper way...not by jerking him up by the collar and dragging him down the hallway.

I'm glad that this substitute teacher will no longer be allowed to sub. Shame on him...I hope he has apologized to the child and his family! Sheesh!!

Don't Call Me Tonight at Ten...

' cause I will be watching the season premier of Mind Freak!!! I usually am not really into magicians but Criss Angel is really good...he is a great entertainer! You can see some of his illusions revealed over at YouTube. Be sure to check out the video where he reveals his levitation illusion. You know, I sit here and roll these illusions over and over in my mind...how did he do that...where is the mirror...blah, blah, blah. When I see the reveal videos, it seems so clear! Duh...why didn't I think of that??!

What I need to know is how he floats from building to building?? Big mirrors or what??

Chompin' Grapes

Ok...so I guess I should be glad that my kids are eating grapes and not candy..right? If only they would chew with their mouths shut, I would appreciate this moment much more!! Hear my heart here...Grapes are Great! Just read the article below!!

I feel like I am telling my kids ALL THE TIME to chew with their mouths closed. Sheesh...it's driving me nuts! Any ideas on taking care of this highly irritating habit once and for all??? Really...please help me!!

Zombie Apocalypse

OK...folks...this quiz takes you to a online dating place. I don't need a date but I did need to find out how Zombie Proof I am! lol!! Not so good huh? Maybe I need to watch more of Shaun of the Dead to learn how to defend myself when the Zombie Apocalypse comes!!

If you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead then you need to rent it...very funny movie!! I'd love to have a copy for our shelves...maybe I'll add that to my wish list....

Sheesh...Is This For Real??

I just came across this video about 5 graduating high school students being denied their diplomas because of people cheering for them during the commencement ceremony. Apparently the students and their families signed contracts promising they wouldn't cheer so I guess "legally" they can be denied the diplomas.

This whole thing seems nuts to me! What if the student didn't cheer but the family did...why should the student be punished?? Can someone help me out here?? Is cheering your student such a bad thing?? Sheesh!

Toxic Toothpaste

Tooth Paste

I was checking out food recalls at the FDA site and I came across this posting about toothpaste from China. This recalled toothpaste contains DEG which is used in anti-freeze and as a solvent. What?! In my toothpaste?! In the toothpaste my babies use?? Sheesh....oh, wait...the FDA has had no reports here in the US.....yet. Furthermore, you can calm down because apparently this antifreeze ingredient is only really harmful for people who have kidney or liver diseases and....for our CHILDREN..."low but meaningful risk of toxicity and injury" is what the FDA says....hmmmm....

I think it's time for us to start using baking soda...it's cheap and as far as I know, it doesn't contain any toxins. Besides it's on my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days! And doesn't it make your teeth sparkle??

Here's a link with some info on homemade toothpaste.

Friday Link Love

Here's my Link Love list for this week! I haven't had a lot of time this week to go blog hopping so I only have three links...but they are good ones! lol!!

  • Fingertalks: I actually came across this great blog through the Alexa Redirect train. I enjoy Fingertalk's posts and look forward to visiting daily.
  • Charlottes' Tips: I'm going to make the homemade room deodorizer! And the Chicken Kiev too!
  • Colloquium: This is one of those blogs you need some time to browse! Nice!
Thanks to This Eclectic Life for the Link Love idea and button!

Google Sreetview

So...what do you think of the new Google Streetview?

I know there are several people concerned because of privacy issues. I guess I can understand that but...really, no need to worry about us peepin' around here because our system is just not that good to see all the little details. All I'm getting is people figures...I don't think I could tell who someone was if I had to! UPDATE: nevermind that previous comment...I CAN see details at some of the places! Yowsie!!

All the privacy issues aside...I think it's a pretty neat application. Gadling has several links to some neat streetviews...I especially like the headless person view! lol! There is also a link to a running list of Google Streetview finds so be sure to check that out too. Several "plumber's cracks" are on the list! lol!!!

I don't know...maybe this would be a good thing for me...maybe I would be inclined to keep my house clean and my britches pulled up!!
