Hyacinth Washing Her Face...

Remember a few weeks ago when we bathed Hyacinth, the hamster? Well, I forgot that I had captured this video of her washing her face....and me sounding so very country-bumpkin!

Some of you have asked if Hyacinth is still alive...yes, she is! She blogged with me just the other night...she likes to sit on my shoulder while I'm on the computer!! Neat!

Bijou and Biloxi

I don't think I told you all that we have adopted two gerbils from my friend Mary (who refuses to blog). We got the little cuties a couple of weeks ago. They are fast and very smelly...but I'm not going to bathe them because I know better!

This is Bijou...as you can see , she's an albino gerbil. I love her little beady red eyes! Cool!!

And this is Biloxi....look at her little baby cap on her head...so sweet! It's gone now and she's all the same color.

I love this action shot!

And this one too...arent' they sweet?!

Is It OK to Bathe A Hamster?

Well...no, it's really not ok to bathe a hamster! Even though this ham got the full spa treatment, it's highly discouraged. I didn't know this at the time, but now I do and Hyacinth will never ever be bathed again...no matter how stinkin' nasty and greasy she looks!

Hamsters are really good at cleaning themselves and should only be bathed if they have something toxic on them that could be ingested. When you bathe a ham, you are removing some of the essential oils that are needed to keep the little thing's fur and skin healthy. Often, hamsters die from bathing because their body temperature has been lowered and they catch a chill. I wrapped Hyacinth in a little crocheted dishrag...just like you do a newborn...awwww how cute!

We did all the wrong things when we gave Hyacinth her spa experience! Next time I'll get some chinchilla sand for her to roll around in...I've read it's much better and far less likely to kill her!

This is Mean!

This report makes me furious! I mean really, who could torture an animal like this...can you imagine how much pain that poor turtle experienced? I'm glad that he was rescued and that the caregivers were able to place a feeding tube...but really, turtles shouldn't need feeding tubes! This is mean!!

Click and Clack

I had such high hopes for Click and Clack. They were going to grow into great big, strong and healthy frogs and go out into the world and make us all proud....but what did they do instead? They up and died on us! Sheesh....

The first night Click and Clack were with us was very stressful for me! Click was doing well...swimming around with his little arms and legs going strong. Clack, however, didn't look so good. He was just kind of floating toward the bottom of the bowl...I was certain he was going to die. I would poke him and he would move but not very much. I went to bed that night certain that Clack would be dead in the morning.

When I went to check on the tads, I was completely surprised to see Clack sitting up on the rock looking like a little frog! He changed over night! I guess he was just "resting" before the big change...I felt bad for poking him! lol!! I really had no idea that tads slowed down that much before becoming a frog.

I was thrilled that Clack had survived! I then noticed that Click was floating underwater. Click didn't seem to be moving as much but I wasn't terribly worried because I had been through this with Clack! Later in the day, I noticed that Click was all stretched out....and dead....but still, I held out hope because maybe he was just really in a deep rest! lol!! Unfortunately, I checked on him later and it was obvious that he was good and dead. And there sat Clack, up on his rock as if he was waiting for Click to come join him. It was sad! I mean really, it was!

That evening, I went to look at Clack (because he was just so darn cute!) and I found him right beside Click....underwater....with his legs stretched out....dead! Can you believe that?? Sheesh-a-moley.....little punk tadpoles!

Oh well, there's always next year....

Insurance For Your Pets

So how many of you all had sick dogs after the recent Dog Food Recall? We were fortunate that Milo is a picky eater and only eats one of the few foods that were not on the recall list. If he had gotten sick, I’m not sure we could have afforded his treatments which I’m sure would have been very expensive. We would have been in a bind.

A growing trend among pet owners is to purchase pet insurance. At PetCare they offer quite a few policies for both your cat and dog. Visit today to get a free quote!

This is a sonsored post.
