Have You Checked Yours Lately??

So everyone knows that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but did you know that you can help women who can't afford mammograms by heading over to the official Breast Cancer Site and click on the "Click Here It's Free!" button?? When you click on the button, sponsors donate money to pay for these mammograms! Of course, you can also shop in the store and purchase items or you can just donate. Easy Peasy..right? You can click once a day...I don't think that's too hard, do you?

Big ol' Wave to Momo Fali for sharing this!

The Straight Me!

Just ask my husband and all my friends….I need a change. Not a big change but something different….different make-up…a new outfit….a different hairstyle…something! I just had a birthday and though I’m not feeling old, I really am looking the part! Lol!

So when I got the opportunity to play around at this makeover site, I jumped!! I tried all sorts of hairstyles…longs, mediums and shorts…wavy and straight. What I ended up going with was a straight look because I will never ever have straight hair and I figured this would be one of the few times I had the chance to see myself with straight hair. What I didn’t realize though was that I got only one free “look”…so I wasted my makeover look on one that is just not possible. My hair is wavy and that’s how life is…I’m not willing to do all the work to make it straight! Lol! So…just keep that in mind when you go to do your makeover, you’ve got one freebie (however, you can upgrade your account for more looks)…I know you’re going! Lol!

I went with a straight hairstyle with blonde/brown highlights and reddish brown lowlights. I did the full face makeup look since I hardly ever where make up anymore (that is changing soon..stay tuned) and I got a…well…hmmm…an interesting look! Lol! I think I really need smaller glasses….and that’s all the bashing I’m gonna do! Lol!

Over all…that was a ton of fun and you should go there and make yourself over. Be sure to post your before and after screenshot and come back here and let me know…so I can come tell you how lovely you look!!

Felted Acorns

Really...I wish I could post photos of these little acorns from Betz White's blog because they are so cute. I don't have permission though so I won't...but please go over and look at them. I guess I just need to get on the ball and make my own because I can take photos of my own..right?

I love fall!

Drugs in Your Hair

It would really surprise me if we were to find out that one of our kids were taking drugs. However, I also know that in this day and age, it can happen very easily. I hope that we are teaching our children that taking drugs is not an option in our home and that doing do so is very dangerous.

So, how do we make sure that are children are not involved in drugs? We can ask them or we can use the Hair Confirm Home Drug Testing Kit. Some people will say that testing your children is wrong, but really, I think this is a brilliant way to cut straight to the issue. If your child knows that you can test to see if they have taken drugs over the past 90 days, don’t you think that may be a deterrent? I think so….and then the tough part comes….re-training their hearts because you want them to not take drugs because it’s the right thing to do…you know, it’s a heart issue but in the meantime, you have to train their flesh too….

Too Much Boobage!

Sticking with the public school thing here....

Have you all heard about the elementary school teacher in Knoxville, TN who posted "sexy" photos on her MySpace profile? Sheesh a moley....what do you all think about this?? Would you be ok with the fact that your little kiddo's teacher was posting such photos?? Some are talking about her rights to post whatever she wants. I'm sorry...I disagree! I think that when you are a teacher, you are held to higher standards than the average Joe. I mean come on...you are leading the "littles" and when you decide to post something on a blog, site, social bookmarking place, whatever, well then you need to be more discerning...I mean really, this gal doesn't seem to be too smart...should she be teaching children anyway???

And then there's the group of people who are saying that her husband is the one who let the school officials know about the photos...so she should be left alone...huh??

Really....just put a shirt on....shirts are good! Shirts are your friends!

She Hid in the Bathroom

When I think about one of my kids having to hide in the bathroom in an attempt to save his/her life from a gunman....I am sick. This gal should never have had to experience this....what a sad, sad thing. Sad for all involved...including the student who had the gun and eventually committed suicide.

I'm glad we educate at home...I know, I know, this can happen anywhere.

Christmas Spending

Christmas is just around the corner…I can’t believe it, but it’s true! Pete and I have been discussing how we are going to pay for Christmas gifts this year. It makes sense to use a credit card then pay it off right after Christmas.

So which card do we choose? We could use one we already have or we could look for one that has cash back bonuses or even airline miles. Right now the card we use has neither….maybe it’s time to check out some other Credit Cards.

CreditCardSearchEngine.com has quite a few different categories we can search. We can also compare different cards to see which one is better for us. Hmmm…it will be good to figure out which card is really best for us! Neat!

Amigurumi Acorns Pattern

As I was out and about looking for a pattern for a crocheted laptop sleeve...which I've not found yet...I came across these completely cute amigurumi acorns. I love acorns...I'm definitely gonna make these babies! The pattern is free and it's for crochet...it's for me! Neat!

Solar Village! Cool!

Have you ever seen a solar village? Well, if not, you have a chance to see one on the National Mall in Washington D.C. in just two days!

That’s right, in two days, the BP Solar Decathlon kicks off with the opening of the solar village. This solar village will be made up of twenty solar houses designed and built by twenty different college and university teams from around the world. These teams will compete in ten different competitions in order to choose an overall winner. The teams are responsible for choosing the best systems, appliances and products for their homes…their homes that are powered only by the sun!

As this competition progresses, you can check out the blog set up by BP. You’ll be able to read posts written by the teams and also posts written by an on-site reporter. I think this is a great idea and such a neat type of competition. I feel that researching alternative sources of energy is certainly a good thing. I wish we lived closer so we could visit the solar village and see all there neat houses. I’m sure the blog will be a good alternative though.

The BP Solar Decathlon runs from October 12th through the 20th on the National Mall in Washington D.C.

yWriter3..FREE!

Just wanted to let you all know about the program I used last year when I wrote my first NaNoWriMo novel. It's called yWriter3 and has been developed by Spacejock. It's a FREE program so you can download a copy too! Very easy to use and I'm certainly going to be using it again this year!

While you are there to grab your program, be sure to enter to win a signed copy of a Hal Spacejock book! You can also find some articles on writing and publishing. Very neat site!

Ready for NaNoWriMo

It's official....I'm ready for NaNoWriMo 2007. Really, I am! I have registered and my laptop came today!! Yes, folks, you heard me...my laptop came today!! Wooo Hooo!! I am so pleased that I was able to purchase a laptop using my "sponsored" post money! Actually, this is the second computer I've purchased with my earnings. This little job of writing "sponsored"posts has been a good thing...

Back to NaNoWriMo....really, I want to know if any of you all are going to be writing this year. Just one of you?? Please let me know 'cause we can encourage each other along the way. I had a blast last year and I have a very rough draft of a novel. This year, I'll be doing the same...but I'll be working on my second novel. Will these ever be published?? Probably not, but it was wonderful to stretch my creative wings and give it a whirl!

So...let me know if you are writing!

Allowances

Kids and money….now that’s a topic that can wear you out! Lol! It’s time for Pete and I to discuss this topic, but I want this to happen at Applebee’s so I’m going to have to wait a couple of days…I think I can do that!

So…how do you handle allowances for your children? There are a gazillion different theories, books, charts, etc that address this topic. There are also a lot of Parenting blogs and websites that attempt to address the topic too….one of those blogs, Chores and Allowances, has a ton of information that I’m going to be sharing with Pete. The blog author is a father of two and has a lot of experience in the payments industry…lots of good ideas and advice here, folks! Neat!

Mailboxes

What kind of mailboxes do you have in your neighborhood?

When I was growing up, our neighborhood had the mail boxes on a post at the edge of the driveway so the mailman could pull up to the box to deliver your mail. I always loved to put up the red flag on the side of the box to let the mailman know we had mail to be picked up.

Now that I have my own home, things are different. In the neighborhood that we’ve moved to, we have mailboxes that are mounted on our houses. A lot of times our mailman walks up and down the street delivering the mail. To let him know we’ve got outgoing mail, we just turn the envelopes up on their ends and let them hang out the top…the lid keeps the envelopes from completely falling out.

I love that our mailbox is actually on our house! Over the years, all of my kids have loved checking the mail….and I don’t have to worry about them getting ran over! Lol! It’s also nice that we don’t have to go out into the rain to get our mail…wooohooo!!!

2008 Presidential Candidates Widget

I saw this widget over at HomeMom3 . You can grab your widget at Military Blog Widgets. HomeMom3 has posted that when you grab your a widget and place it on your blog, Military Blog Widgets will donate $20 to the Fisher House. I actually didn't see that on the site....but I'm gonna trust HomeMom3 on this one....

btw, I took the quiz and it looks like a dude named John Cox is the person I need to be checking out. If I were to vote today, I would be voting for Ron Paul...Pete and I voted for Michael Peroutka in the past election....much to everyone's horror since we were "wasting our vote"....don't even get me started! lol! ...and I WILL delete any ugly comments...really, I will...don't mess with me! lol! Funny comments are welcome though..I can handle it! lol!

Unwrapped Emotions

Nesting Momma has written a wonderful post about her unwrapped raw emotions...her experience with a toxic relationship. This month is not only Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it's also Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Nesting Momma's post certainly brings light to this problem. In her post, she discusses depression and her battle with it. She shares a lot of wisdom and I really appreciated her transparency in this post.

Like Brother...Like Sister

I know this isn’t right, but I’ve been having so much fun morphing my son Nik into different people….and things! Not only is this just completely fun to put together, but I can also use these morphs to bribe my son into doing things! Bwaahhhahhaahh!! I mean really, he will croak when he sees some of the morphs I’ve put together. I don’t think they are embarrassing, but you know what a 13 year old is going to say!

No, really, I won’t use these morphs to manipulate my son (or will I? bwaahhahaha!!). I will have a lot of fun though….and I was going to say that I would teach him how to morph photos, but after a second thought, that’s probably not a good idea, ‘eh?

I’ve used the Morpheus Photo-Morpher to create my morphs. It is incredibly easy to use and the help section is great. There are some changes that I want to make in my morph so I’m going to go back in and change a few things around and try some new options. I also want to try to morph more than two things…that can be done, I just haven’t tried it yet!

You can get learn more about the Morpheus Photo-Morpher by visiting Zoombli. It’s loads of fun…very good chance you will become addicted! Lol!

Raw Video of OUCH!

Man oh man! This reminds me of the wild ride we took on the Pittsburgh public transit. We didnt' have a wreck but I thought we were going to. I was a nervous wreck because we had Gus with us. I was completely freaked out because there were no seat belts. Pete reminded me that there are no seat belts on a bus...the crazy driver just laughed. Sheesh...obviously, my idea of seat belts is not a bad idea at all....

oh, oh...I just remembered! I was in a bus wreck when I was young! Our bus driver backed into a tree really hard. Everyone was ok...just startled. I looked down at the Tennessee Terd Bird I had brought for show and tell....he had lost both eyes!! What?! My Tennessee Terd Bird was blinded by a crazy school bus wreck!! lol!! I'll never forget the day...

This makes me cringe. What if that had been one of my babies?? Ack!

Holidays

Holidays….that sounds so much better than vacation doesn’t it? I think I’m gonna start saying holiday for vacation!!

So, since I’m officially using “holiday”, I should check out a borders holiday cottage and see which one I want to secure for my travels. If I make it over there, I’ll want to stay for awhile since this is the area between England and Scotland…and we all know what I want to see in England and Scotland…castles!! That will take me some time, right?

I think this is the one I want to stay in….Lyne Cottage. Very nice!

Pom Pom Pumpkins Tutorial

And yet another little pumpkin craft tutorial! This one is from Laurie over at Liquid Paper, another delightfully crafty blog. She has put together one of the best tutorials I have ever seen...it's just wonderful! Check it out!
