Huge Book Give Away!

Amy Sedaris Book...Got it!!

Ahhh...sometimes you come across a book that you just can't do anything with but shake your head at...and then laugh hysterically!! This, my friends, is one of those books..

I received Amy Sedaris' book from Nicole over at Busy Little Bee...and I'm such a horrible winner that I am just now getting around to posting about it...please forgive me!!

Let me tell you all, this book is not for the faint of heart for there are some...well....how should I put it...unsavory comments...and...uh...some....well....interesting advice! I've wanted to read this book for sometime now and I am aware of Amy Sedaris' nuttiness so I wasn't shocked by any thing in the book...well, maybe that part where she tells you how to....well...nevermind! lol!!

Anywhoo...this book is hi-lar-i-ous!! I'm glad I finally got to peruse it and I'm looking forward to reading it all the way through...and then I'm going to share it with my friends who are like me and have a sick humor!! lol!!

Book Giveaway...The Kite Runner

Last night I finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. This was one of the books on my Armchair Traveler Reading Challenge List.

So did I like it? Yes...I will have to be honest though, it wasn't the best book that I've ever read. It was a bestseller and a lot of people do love it though! lol!! Would I recommend it? Yes...because I learned a lot about Afghanistan. Here are two of the things that were new to me!

Hazara: an ethnic group who reside mainly in the central region of Afghanistan. Their physical attributes have led some to believe that they have Mongolian origins. You'll have to do your own research on that...there's lots of differing viewpoints and honestly, they are all above me! lol!! In one part of the book, Hosseini describes the character of Hassan as being "a boy with a Chinese doll face..."(pg. 25). I never knew that about the Hazaras and I found that fascinating. I just love all the different "looks" God has given us! I think this girl is just beautiful!

Kites and Kite Runners: I had no idea that kite flying was such a huge sport in Afghanistan. Kite fighting is very popular. The kite runners are the ones that run after the kites that have been cut down by another kite. It's an honor to "run" the kite that is next to last in the sky. Did that make any sense?? Probably not so you'll just have to read the book! Another thing I found interesting is that the kite string is coated with glass...makes sense...but OUCH!! I cringed every time I read about the kite string.

How completely cool! I won this week's book giveaway at Deena's! I'll be receiving Veil of Fire by Marlo Schalesky and this sounds like a great book. I can't wait to get it in the mail. This is one of the books that will kick off Cook's Communications "Sizzling Summer of Fiction" reading campaign! That sounds neat too!
