Noah the New Hearted

I came across this Parody Motivator Generator and I just know that it's going to be trouble for me...I easily become distracted with fun things like these! This is supposed to be a "parody" tool but I misused it and made something sweet...the next one I'll do something warped!lol!

This first one I did is of Noah...one of the little guys we've been praying for over at Gus' Gang. He was just a wee little fellow when he received his heart transplant. How cool is that?! A family somewhere out there, made a beautiful choice to donate their baby's organs so that this little sweet pea would have a new chance at life. I'm thankful they made that decision...

I guess you'll have to click on it to read it...

BlogCatalog Community Organ Donation Awareness Campaign

I was just thrilled when I heard that BlogCatalog wanted us all to blog about Organ Donation today! My son, Gus, was waiting for a liver/small bowel but died this past May. His little body could hold out no longer.

I know that when we discuss organ donation, we are discussing the donation of adult organs. No one wants to even consider the fact that children die and can be organ donors too. I know I never wanted to think about so I didn't. I felt that if I even thought in the direction, that I was saying I would be ok if my child died. I know that sounds strange but I just didn't want to jinx things.

I know now that organ donation is something that should be discussed before you are in a stressful situation and unable to make a decision. Talking about donating organs is not going to kill you or your child. There are so many children out there who are waiting for these organs. Gus was at the top of the national list for three months....I just have a hard time believing that there were not children who died who would have been a match for him.

I'm not bitter and I'm not angry. The outcome of our story is fully in God's hands. It is just my wish that families would be more willing to donate organs of their precious children who have died....from great tragedy, such a wonderful gift can be given.

I will be participating in this year's Blogathon over at Gus' Gang. The charity I will be blogging for is COTA: Children's Organ Transplant Association. I would love for you to come visit me on the 28th and I would love to be able to raise a ton of money for this organization!

Sad...

I am heavy-hearted over the plane crash that was carrying a transplant team from the University of Michigan Transplant Center. I can't help but think that since one of the docs on-board was a pediatric surgeon that they were retrieving organs for a child. I could be totally wrong about that...the organ could have certainly been for an adult but you know where my mind goes first.

I am so sorry for the families that have been left behind but, in all honesty, my heart is just broken for that family waiting on the life-saving transplant. To get the call saying that organs are available and to start getting ready has got to be a huge ball of emotions...and then to be told that the plane had crashed has just got to be devastating. I'm sure the family has gotten to know these docs well so I can't even fathom what they are feeling right now...such a tragedy.

And what about the donor family? A lot of times, organs are donated because the family wants to help another person...it eases the pain. And I'm sure that the donor family wasn't informed but there are times that you can put two and two together and kind of figure out what has happened.

In my eyes, all of these people involved are heroes: the docs, the patient and family and the donor family. Things like this don't make much sense...but then again there's not much in this ol'
world that does....

This Time Last Year...

This is from Gus' CaringBridge site:

TUESDAY, MAY 23, 2006 09:42 AM, CDT

Gus' teeth have stopped bleeding..we think! lol!! He was given a medicine that is used for oral bleeding and it has seemed to work. He is still quite puffy but is peeing ok. He can't help but be "over-filled" with all the blood products he has to get daily. Pete bought me a step stool so I could get up higher so I can reach over and squeeze Gus...we have to be very careful not to move him so it's best for me to "hover" over him and give him hugs and kisses! lol!!
Pete and I are on our way to a Grand Round...we like to pretend we are doctors! The head of Gus' transplant team is speaking here today and we were told we could come. Dr. Mazareigas is going to be talking about intestinal failure and transplantation....that would be us! lol!! Anyway....I'll be back later with more...

Please consider Organ Donation...
