The Face Behind the Blog

I don't know whether to be excited about this or to somehow find Sassy and pinch her head off! lol!! Sassy tagged me for this meme last month and I've been putting off taking photos of myself because I'm not photogenic at all...even Pete agrees!

So here goes.....

I'm Jenny-up the hill and I live...well...I live up the hill! I've been married 14 years to the one and only Pete who I love very much...he's a lot of fun and is always the life of the party! He's good for little ol' dramatic me! We have five children: three living (13, 11, 6) and two in Heaven, Sam 19 weeks gestation and Gus 16 months. I have started a ministry to encourage other families who have chronically ill children or who are suffering the loss of a child...it's called Gus' Gang. I teach my children at home.

I am a self-taught quilter, crocheter and rubber stamp carver. I love bright colors...especially pink! My favorite drink is Cheerwine and I love chocolate covered coffee beans. I hate mascara that smudges...I really hate it!

I started blogging when we first came home from the NICU with Gus...that was when he was about 6 months old. I blogged to let people know how he was doing and what the other children were learning and doing. Some people were concerned about us homeschooling when I had such a huge responsibility taking care of Gus...I just wanted to reassure them that all my children were doing well! After Gus died, I continued to blog for therapy and realized that I enjoyed writing...even though I strongly stink at it! lol! I wrote a novel last year...it's a very rough draft so don't ask to read it! I have found that I write quite differently when I blog...I'm conversational with lots of pauses (....). Pete says that I can learn to write...I don't know about that but I think I'll give it a try. Don't expect to see anything great here though...this is the place I come to dump by brain...plop!

This is me....wow, I need some smaller frames those are honkin" huge! I want some of those small thick frames that look nerdy...really, I do! I think they would make me feel smart!

8 Random Things About Me...College Edition!

Lavender over at The Birds and The Beads has tagged me fro the 8 random things about me. I think this is my third time playing along! Fun!
Here's the rules:

1. I was in college with Kenny Chesney. He sat next to me in Advertising. On weekends we would go down to Quarterbacks and listen to him play his guitar and sing cover songs. We laughed at him when he told us he was going to Nashville to become a star.....

2. In college, I was the president of the American Marketing Association.

3. I held several offices in my sorority, Delta Zeta. My favorite was Pledge President.

4. My freshman year, someone broke into my dorm room and stole my favorite pair of Benetton jeans, my eel skin pocketbook, mini recorder, fifty bucks and some makeup. The police found my pocketbook in the dumpster at the hospital...they made me get in the dumpster to get it....I was impressed with their chivalry.

5. My sophomore year, as I was moving into my dorm room on the second floor, I heard a girl yell "Jason, Oh my god...Jason...."and then I heard a thump followed by a lot of screaming. I called the RA and told her that something strange was going on...that maybe someone had been hurt. She called me later to tell me that what I had heard was Jason falling down the elevator shaft and hitting the bottom...thump! Jason fell from the fourth floor. Apparently, the elevator had stopped between floors and he tried to jump out and lost his footing and fell. I will never forget the sound of his body hitting the ground.

6. About a month later, I met Jason at a party! He was limping just a little....

7. I was a business student with a focus in marketing. I graduated with my B.B.A.

8. I went to aerobics twice a day and sometimes three times a day. Now it's more like twice a year! lol!

Ok Sonya...I know you've been checking your computer all day looking for this post! It was very hard for me to whittle down my long list of "things I want to be when I grow up". In fact, I couldn't cut it down to five so I've listed eight....

Here is how to play: If you had the opportunity to do a 1-year internship in a company or field completely unrelated to your current career or specialty, what would be your top 5 choices?

• ASL Interpreter--ASL is a beautiful language and so expressive.
• Ostomy Nurse--I am fascinated with stomas!
• NICU Nurse--because I can place an ng tube like nobody's business...and I know how to feed a preemie!
• Writer--I did complete NaNoWriMo you know....Sonya said she was going to but never started...
• Captain of a Catamaran in the Virgin Islands--only so I could eat at Foxy's several times a week!
• Biscuit Maker--so I could make biscuits that would stand up to living behind the tv
• Hamster Wrangler--because hamsters rock!
• Ice Skater--because I think I would look good in one of those outfits! lol!! I am so just kidding about that!!

• 1. I’m a counter…yep…I count things….just a smidge OCD! I really prefer to sort things into groups of seven. I don’t lose it if I can’t, it just doesn’t feel 100% correct!
• 2. II like for my canned goods labels to be facing front. Same thing with my spices…
• 3. I can clean up poop accidents but not puke accidents…I end up puking on top of the puke.
• 4. I do not eat hot dogs…you can’t make me!
• 5. I have met Chris Rice and Lee Ann Womack…in fact Lee Ann Womack stood at Gus’ bedside and tried to not cry…she was sweet and so was Chris.

• 7. I don’t eat any kind of meat while it’s still on the bone…ack. This means I can’t save money buying chicken legs and such…I’ll die cooking it….it’s chicken boobs for me!

8 Random Things

I've been tagged by Manilla Mom to do this "8 Random Things Meme". I know there have been other people out there who have tagged me too and I'm sorry that I haven't been able to keep up with them all....so today I'm starting brand new! I've got my little notebook ready and I'll write down all the info so I won't forget!!!


1. I can play the flute and piccolo but I hate playing the piccolo!
2. I can't eat chicken on the bone because of all the blood veins and vessels and grisle and ack!!!
3. I was a drum major in high school.
