Eat Up!

Why go to a banbury restaurant?

Well, because you get really hungry when you are checking out the local castle and visiting the site of the unearthed Iron Age building that was discovered awhile back! There’s also all the shopping you will do…that makes you hungry. You’ll hear talk of the Banbury cake and throughout the day you will have nibbled on cheese and possibly taken in some ale….by the end of the day you are HUNGRY!!

I’m having plain ol’ salad tonight…nothing fantastic like I would probably be eating in Banbury! Lol!

Happy Zombie's Crayon Jack

So...just when I was making my speech about how I hate Halloween (except for the candy tax!), I find the cutest pumpkin project over at Happy Zombie's blog....one of my favorite crafty goodness blogs. I want to be Happy Zombie when I grow up! Anyway...she has a free project featuring a neat pumpkin...you use crayons and embroidery thread...and of course something to color and sew on!

Cute, Cute, cute....even if you hate Halloween! Enjoy!

Printable Halloween Garland

Just found the cutest Halloween Garland over at My Paper Crane! I don't decorate for Halloween...in fact, I hate Halloween...well, maybe I like it just a little because we do get to tax our kiddos' candy bags and I always collect in chocolate! But really, pumpkins are about as far as I'll go and that's on a good day....I just don't like it...

but I do think this garland is cute!! lol!

By the way, just wanted to mention that this garland is for personal use only.

This Tough Ol' World

OK, folks, really….I can understand why and how people can become addicted to drugs and alcohol. It’s because this ol’ world is tough. I mean, there are days that seem like one thing after another is hitting you…attacking you. After awhile, you want to escape it all and you turn to drugs and alcohol.

Well, there are better ways to take care of your problems and healthier ways to take care of your stress. You can choose not to let your problems get the best of you by refusing to have a bad attitude or by trying to find the “silver lining”. That’s hard though…it’s one of those things that is “easier said than done”!

For those of you that have chosen to let drugs and alcohol be the things that save you from despair, you know that they have done just the opposite. Drugs and alcohol have made your life even worse…not only your life, but the lives of your friends and family too. It’s just a mess…you’re a mess and that’s not how God intended you to live life. Really, you are worth more than that!

If you have a problem with drugs and/or alcohol and you need help then you will want to check out a Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center. Hopefully, by checking yourself into a center, you will get the help you need to conquer your addiction and start treating yourself better. Remember, you are worth it!

Historical Anatomies

How neat is this? Here's a place where you will find human anatomy pictures...Historical Anatomies on the Web These are all pulled from medical atlases and are linked to the individual artists. I'm not sure if these images can be printed out or not...that would be great to find out because I can see these images being used in altered books and such. Neat!

Yard Barns For the Kids

Pete has always said that if we were to have more children that we would just buy ourselves one of those metal yard barns and put it up in the backyard. Voila! Extra bedrooms for the kids! Lol!! Well, of course, he was just kidding, but really with some of these Steel Buildings it would be rather nice!

I think I could go for the whole idea if it were going to be a quilting or craft studio for me! Now really, doesn’t that sound so much better than child storage?? I’d let the kids come in a play while I work so really, we all would benefit from this whole set up.

Have you seen some of these Steel Buildings?? There are some that are just average yard barn type storage units, but then there are some that have windows, decks, kitchens and more. A little kitchen and bathroom would be great for my studio. Windows would be a must too! I nice little porch/deck would also be nice…that way Pete could sit on the front porch while I work in my studio…and I guess the kids would be running in and out! Lol!!

Really, one of these buildings would be nice right now since I am in need of studio space. Otherwise, I may have to have little mini studios all over the house…now that’s just not right is it?! Lol!~

Rain

Today is rainy...I love rainy days, most of the time. Today, though I am feeling so tired...it would be a great day to curl up with a good book and just read. Maybe I'll do just that in a bit...I do have some kiddos who need to be taught and feed.

When I do get a chance today, I think I'll start my book I got in the mail yesterday. It looks like a good one and I'll be posting my review after I finish it...

What are you reading right now?

Looking for a Job

Have you ever wanted to go to a different city or country and secure a job? I’ve always thought it would be neat to work somewhere in the Virgin Islands, but there are other cities too that I think would be interesting to check out.

How about London? What kind of London jobs would you look for? I think I would look for a cooking job or maybe a job being a nanny. Of course, Pete would look for nursing jobs. Regardless of the area of work we would want, we would need to be able to find these job openings, right?

I’m sure there are several ways to look for these jobs. We could go there and start asking around…asking people if they know of anyone hiring. That’s hard work though and I think it would be much easier and efficient to check out the classifieds in the local papers. Going the paper route would uncover lots of jobs in London and ones we would want to pursue!

I, however, am quite ok with Pete working while I visit all the sites, do our daily shopping, visit with my new friends…..ahhhhh….

A Sweater for Sadie

Isn't this dog sweater just adorable? Can you see it in pinks?? That's just the kind of sweater that Sonya's dog, Sadie, needs for the fall and winter! So, Sonya...when are you going to learn how to crochet???

What Your Business Needs

Businesses need blogs! Really, there’s no reason to not have one in this day and age.

Setting up your business blog is simple when you use a company like 34SP. This company is a WordPress hosting company and they will set up your blog for you! They will install Wordpress for you so you don’t have to deal with all the scripts. That sounds great to me because I stink at working with scripts and codes and such.

After your Wordpress installation, you are ready to blog…it’s that simple! Now, really, there’s not reason for your business to not have a blog…

Fnugg Blue

Just saw this over at Neatorama and had to share! This is a video of Oystein Baadsvik playing his very unique style on his tuba. You know, most tuba players are in orchestras or other musical groups...not Mr. Baadsvik! He has developed a style that allows him to play solo....and that is neat! Enjoy!

Talk to Your Daughter

Here's another one of those clever videos from Dove. This one is really good..really convicting and a good reminder to be sure we are teaching our daughters about true beauty. Interesting....

Sassy Skorts

Next spring, after I’ve shed some poundage….wanna know what I’m gonna do? I’m going to buy myself one of those neat little skorts. I just love them but I can never find one that I like.

Well, it just so happens that I did find a place that sells these babies and you can find them in the golf apparel ladies section. I really like the blue floral one…now that’s sassy!

Joyful Noise--Poems for Two Voices

DISCARDED

That's what happens when we don't check all these neat books out from our local libraries. If no one checks them out, then they are pulled form the shelves. Seems fair enough, but there are great books being pulled! I got this DISCARDED book at a book sale....good for me because I was able to purchase a fabulous book that I will be keeping in my personal library...bad for the rest of the library patrons because they will not be able to experience this book unless I invite them over for tea and a reading! So, go save a book....check out something you wouldn't normally check out and give it a chance!

Joyful Noise Poems for Two Voices is a wonderful book written by Paul Fleischman and illustrated by Eric Beddows. This book has been awarded the John Newberry Medal. In this book you'll find poetry about insects. The poetry in this book is not your average poetry...this is poetry written for two voices. I loved reading this book with my kids even though they got tired of reading the poems over and over with me just because I wanted to perfect my bug noises! I would love to see this book read by professionals!

Just as the poetry is wonderful so too are the illustrations. I'm partial to bugs so maybe that's why I think the black and white drawings are great. I especially love the honeybee lounging on her chaise and the big-eyed cicadas. Just a completely neat DISCARDED book!

Looking For Love

Are you ever too old to date? Well, I don’t think so!!

I think it’s so unfortunate when an older single woman or man says that they are too old to find someone to date. This is absolutely nuts and now that there is a site set up to connect all these older folk maybe there will be more love in the air!

If you are game to try senior dating, then head on over to Dating for Seniors and submit your profile. You’ll find a lot of different senior personals and hopefully, you’ll find a date or two! Maybe you’ll meet your future spouse…hmmmm?? It’s possible!!

Anne's Tree

"Nearly every morning I go to the attic to blow the stuffy air out of my lungs," she wrote on Feb. 23, 1944. "From my favorite spot on the floor I look up at the blue sky and the bare chestnut tree, on whose branches little raindrops shine, appearing like silver, and at the seagulls and other birds as they glide on the wind. ...

"As long as this exists, I thought, and I may live to see it, this sunshine, the cloudless skies, while this lasts I cannot be unhappy." The Diary of Anne Frank

Did you read about Anne Frank's chestnut tree? Seems like it's in terrible shape. Specialists have come in and have agreed that there's not much that can be done to save it. They were able to get grafts from the tree and eventually, a sapling will be replacing it. I'm glad someone thought about grafting....of course, I'm not a gardener so those kinds of thoughts would never pop up in my mind! lol!!

Taming Horrible Harry

How do you solve a problem like Harry? Well, you give him a book!!

Taming Horrible Harry is just the neatest book about a very bad monster that likes to scare people. He scares a little girl who drops her book...and this is where Harry's adventures with books begins. Delores del Dragon, who can read, offers to teach harry how to read...and he takes her up on her offer. Harry soon discovers that reading is waaaaay more fun than scaring people. The other monsters start noticing Harry's change in behaviour and they start asking him to read to then. Now Harry spends his time reading books and watching for the little girl he scared away...he leaves her book by the tree....open with a heart-shaped rock. Is that not the most tender thing??

Taming Horrible Harry is written by Lili Chartrand and illustrated by Roge. This story was originally written in French so we have Susan Ouriou to thank for her translation! Thank you all for such a wonderful book!!

I Want First Class but I Will Gladly Take Coach!

You all know I do a lot of armchair traveling and that one day, Pete and I plan on doing a lot of traveling. Right now we are staying put since Pete is still in school. Once he becomes a nurse, we can travel! Woohoo!! Hopefully there will still be places like CheapoAir.

At CheapoAir, you can search for the cheapest flights available for your time of travel and your destination. All you have to do is click on the “Flights” tab and you’ll be taken to a form where you can key in your information. There is also a link titled “More Search Options” where you can look at what other airlines are offering on those dates and destinations that you keyed in. There are several other options that you can check in order to get a more specific search result. This seems so incredibly easy to me! Really, there’s no reason to not be able to secure CheapFlights when you are needing to fly somewhere.

I did a quick check to see what results I could get if we flew out of our local airport to St Thomas, USVI. First I had to key in our local airport code. I knew our local airport code but I had no idea what the code was for the airport on St. Thomas. No problem, the site has a listing of all airport codes! I searched for first class seats (one can dream, right?!) for 3 adults and 2 kids. The results were delivered quickly. The fare was good but really, we have no business traveling first class so I checked fares for coach and that rate was much better for us!

Really, I could go on and on but I won’t bore you with all my searches. I do want to say though, that this site is really super easy to use and if you are making travel plans you certainly need to check here before just calling the airline and booking your flights. Cool!

Just Wonderin'

What do you all think about this? Should hugging be banned in the school hallways or is that just completely nuts?

Just so you know, we hug in our hallways! lol!

One Armed Bandits

I have a confession….I am addicted to slot machines. My grandmother had a problem with the “One Armed Bandit” and I guess she has passed that trait on down to me. It’s sad…really it is. I mean really, have you ever sat in front of a slot machine and been able to say no to that lever?? It’s so honkin’ fun to pull…and then you win…and you win again….and then it’s sucked you in. Not good at all!

That’s why if Pete and I were to ever go to Las Vegas, we would have to focus on the shows and all the food buffets. I’ve heard that the Flamingo Las Vegas is a good place to check out. Toni Braxton is one of the headliners…I like her. An evening of Toni Braxton….lots of food…and then later a comedy show…that sounds nice to me!

Just keep me away from the slot machines….really, I mean it!
